European Motor Industry Mentor training

As a result of the national reports on the subject “Benchmarking of mentors´ manuals for work-based learning” similarities and differences in workplace-orientated training were identified in the three partner countries. There is no single national ideal model emerging, however there is a European trend in practice-orientated training, which provides learners with the following advantages:

Work-based learning in the companies represents the real world of work,
Immediate visible successes of learning and work results,
Promoting of motivation in the training process by changing the places of learning (company and school),
Implementation of the recently acquired knowledge in the practical work,
Training as a good skilled worker and very good chances for takeover as employee after the training.
The dual vocational training system in Germany consistently implements the concept of work-based learning. The partners from Sweden and Scotland were able to gain good success with internships in motor vehicle companies/garages as an integrated part of the full-school training.

The mentors in the motor vehicle companies take on a special responsibility in the transmission of the practical training content. The e-learning module with the integrated “Toolbox” will be a modern information platform for mentors and provide access to work-based learning components. Successful training materials from motor vehicle companies, vocational schools and training centres should be selected for this purpose. The aim of the project is to provide mentors with additional methodical and pedagogic-didactic tools for the workplace-orientated training in motor vehicle companies.
