Wood is Building Europe

European Wood Construction Managers Online Training is a European initiative to develop a new European distance education on the Internet for wood construction. The aim is to meet the demand for skills needed to increase the use of wood as building material in the European construction. The initiative is supported by the EU Training Programme Leonardo da Vinci and is a collaboration between the partners in Belgium, Latvia, France, Romania and Sweden.

Knowledge of wood construction is very important for Europe for several reasons. Wood is a renewable material. Timber store carbon dioxide and trees that grow produce oxygen. France has signed a national agreement for 10% of the choice of materials in public construction will be wood. Wood constructions is one way to reach the French and European environmental requirements. It is also an approach to reduce carbon emissions and comply with the recommendations of the EU regarding the reduction of CO2 emissions.

Background

Since 1994, the EU fully permitted the use wood construction techniques also in large-scale construction. No other building technology has developed so quickly that modern timber construction. High-tech wood construction technology has made wood a very attractive alternative. Thanks to the new technology it is now possible to usefully build high houses, large public buildings and large bridges in the wood.
